Hey all, my son and I dug this within 150 yds of our home, the condition you see is after heavy cleaning, it looked like it was from the titanic when dug,
there was known civil activity here, from both sides, however I believe this to be a very old homesite, as well.

In one of the pics there is a small square that is very shiny silver, I was surprised to see this.

also near the elongated hole the silvery can be seen.

the two "end caps" were attached at one time one was nearby, seperated and the other still on it.

I would say 1/4 lb weight.

put you caps on for this one......THANKS 2 ALL.

HERE ARE THE OTHER IMAGES so I dont clog up the site

Hmm...  I'm not quite sure what that could go to...  I'll bet it sounded nice on your detector though!

About how deep was it?

My first guess would be an old tractor or wagon piece...  Of course, that is just a guess...

Not silly at all... I used to work on an egg farm in South Florida.  Of course, now it's a little more advanced, but with the quarter for a scale, it definitely fits the description...

That could be a possible ID!

Actually this was found in a known battle site and the 1785 farm of a man that came very close to beating John Deere on the plow patent.
I found one of his original hand made furrows about 2 feet long...
