Today my son wanted to go detecting. He's 6 and hasn't been really interested in the relic hunting until lately. He's been asking me lately to take him sometime. Well this morning we get up and first thing he says is lets go detecting today. He didn't have to twist my arm really!!
So we go to a site that has produced some very good relics this year. I decided to only take one machine and leave mine in the car. I really just wanted to try and help him hunt. We walked for about an hour taking turns with the machine and helping him get used to it. Then it happed!! I got a very good signal. Dug it up and this is the first one of these this site as produced that still has any paper still on it. How the paper is still there who knows, but I was very happy with this.
I gave him the detector and he walked about 3 steps. Bang another good signal. There it was his first Civil War Bullet and a Smith at that!
We hunted about a 6'X6' area that produced all the relics below. Not bad for his first time out. I think I've created a monster now. We got home cleaned them up a bit and he said Dad I need a case to put my relics in now!!

Oh man! He did a lot better on his first time out than I did!
Great job, guys! I think you have, in fact, created a monster! You better start saving up for his machine now!
Seriously though, I'm really glad he had a great time getting outdoors. Maybe he'll want to get out more often to go with you! I think it would be great to have him tag along on our hunts!
