Sick FeelingHi all Ive been lurking for a long while now...but I just had to share a bad day with ya. Spent about 16 solid hours RS'ing, (followed a commanders reports) and then found the only picture in existence of the site.... lined it up manually & precisely with a modern satellite image (topo)
and BAM! there it was........ what a beauty, a frickin turret looking gun emplacement (earthworks) staring me right in the face, oh man my heart was racing.
I had even calculated 3 different ways to get in (with permission)
So me&wife go there entry #1 cable gate, REALTY+bulldozer
Entry 2 Old man stated that earlier hunters / rednecks had ruined the chances of anyone else going in there. (dug up a starter and the farmer ran over it w/ bushhog, doing doughnuts in field... etc)
I even offered to show my license for field time. still no....
Im at my wits end, this just knocked the wind out of me, I own A 1500$ detector and a 400$ detector and I might just sell them, everytime I find a site there is an obstacle.

Hey Rad,
We all know the feeling. That feeling where WE know there is stuff out there but we just can't catch a break.
So, do you have permission that the emplacement is on? Have you scouted the area, meaning have you actually walked to it to check it out?
Brian(CenterHit) is the king of building friendships with landowners. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't find 90% of the relics we come across. He may be able to give you a few pointers!
Thanks for joining the forum and hope to see your finds soon!

Thanks, Ian and Brian, I sent a PM to ya brian, (at least I think it was a pm)
As I stated in the msg, I will share this privately. With Brian or Ian.
you guys probably already know about this particular site. nevertheless,
I would love to see If someone could sway him, because Im fairly persuasive myself (because Im honest and no BS) and people detect that.
The property owner in question is sitting on a gold mine and too lazy to do anything about it, I would have paid him $50 to hunt for 4 hours.
he could have guys sign waivers, fence off HIS boundaries, and relieve them of $20-$50 and alot would pay.
Maybe If Id had a fancy looking paper or logo or uniform etc he may have,
I dont know though, this guy was dead set on heck no.
I may call ya later CH.

No fancy paper saying that you're a "Certified Relic Hunter" will help. Partly, because there aren't any certified relic hunters.
If he doesn't want to give you permission, the unfortunately, there isn't any way around it. We've run into that same predicament a time or two where we are at.
If you have done some research on the place, maybe sharing with him the information that you have will 'make him see the light'. Heck, if you have 2 detectors, you could offer him one to swing with you!
Just my 2 Cents-

Thanks Ian, Brian has hunted the area but didnt hit the exact spot he said, I will try the only remaining property owner and then hang it up on this one.
funny thing is, there appears to be an identical feature on the next mtn behind it
The union was pretty serious about this area...so they may have put in more than one, its about the right distance away to be logical. who knows.
Sincerely, Ray

I agree with Ian...First I would give the owner some time, don't rush back, have patients. With two meters I would offer to share the experience and your information. You've got nothing left to loose if you really want to hunt his property. Always remember, it is his property, if he chooses not to give access then move on with your research and locate another site. It sounds as though your already on a start. HH, Erle from Va.
