Back from the plantation with a jackpot!!

I went back there today and worked on some more of the field.
As you can see my efforts did not go unrewarded.
I found two more of those metal bands with the eyelet on the end and one had a link of the chain stuck in it as you can see.
I dont know how old those shoe taps are and that big thingy looks alike a breast plate for a horse bridal but I dont know.

Ian

Good finds.  Those metal rings/bands are from an old musket, probably a Enfield.

"How do you know this?" you may ask...

Here is a picture of a Civil War Era Enfield Musketoon.  Take note of the two bands that hold the wood and barrel together.

how about you bring your butterfly coil with you  and you can be the second lucky man to hit this field.
I will trade these ring bands each for a silver dime.
I have three of them

Nice group or relics...

Looks as though you got a mix of early 1800's and Civil War relics that you've dug. Ian, I'm going to have to differ on your band ID. He siad has has dug three so far. Looking at his earlier post they look to be made of brass. Put a magnet on it, if it doesn't stick it's probably brass. There shape is too elongated to be a barrel band. Probably to a horse harness of some sort being the rigging used with wagons or ciaisons etc. The heavey metal ring attached to the one looks to be a rein guide.

Not sure of your heel plates, I haven't seen them like that before, I would have to believe a little more modern. Just my guess.

You also have a watch key an what looks as though it is a lock plate cover to a padlock (Probably mid to late 1800's, can't tell without a pic of the makers mark.

Your metal breast plate looking thing is probably decorative piece to furniture or farm equipment of some sort.

i can go along with your assesment partner.
I kinda doubted the ovals were gun pieces.
I did find the williams cleaner round on the same property though.
I have found no old pennies at all but there is an old hand dug well near where all this junk is in the ground. the well looks like it has been partially filled in as the hole is about 8 feet down and filled with debris.

You are aware that there is some disagreement as to what those oval bands are. I do not believe that they went on a firearm but perhaps some kind of horse or farm implement.
