I'm just now getting a chance to post what I found yesterday afternoon. Well, I got back to the camp and found a few bullets pretty quickly. Right before dark I had a very good signal and pulled this sword handle from the soil. I just hope I can find some more of it...the grass is starting to get high here so it is really making it hard to detect.
Fantastic find! You've been tearing it up on that spot lately. Break out the mower or weedeater if you have to.
I wish I had some reference books on swords as I don't, but It sure looks like a Model 1860 calvary saber. Take a look at this picture from shiloh relics below. First pic I could find doing a search for one.

I agree that it is a 1860 calvary saber. I looked at the same site when I found it....shilohrelics is a good site and I'm going to try and visit their physical location soon....my wife has never seen Shiloh battlefield and is wanting to go for a visit.
