Here at R&R we try to emphasize to other treasure hunters the importance of inspecting and researching your finds before you make the decision to throw it away or keep it. This is a perfect example. When I first dug this object, I thought it was a copper fitting for a small pipe. Turns out, it is a Civil War era Lantern Wick Adjuster with a portion of the wick that had been encrusted with dirt in the hole!

Your sure right about that Ian.....I threw away a sword hanger, due to my lack of knowledge....I still haven't gotten over it...Everything goes in to a bucket for a while now..
